The short path

Four steps to a living record.

  1. 01

    Install Cairn

    Add Cairn to Codex through the local plugin marketplace. Claude Code users can enable the companion hook bridge. Both write to the same local Cairn ledger; no hosted account is required for beta.

  2. 02

    Trust the hooks

    Review and trust Cairn’s lifecycle hooks when your AI host asks. Start a new task or Claude session so the current hooks and tools are loaded together.

  3. 03

    Keep working normally

    Use Claude, Codex, or your existing tools as you do today. Cairn observes lifecycle events, advises model routing, and records token economics locally.

  4. 04

    Look for the line

    At the end of a turn, Cairn shows a compact system state. Cairn: Live means attachment, storage, constitution, heartbeat, and observation checks passed.

Beta privacy promise: raw prompts, tool responses, transcripts, repositories, and task artifacts stay on your machine. Cairn records structured telemetry and hashes for local analysis; nothing is uploaded by default.
